Kathy White offers individual tailor made yoga retreats 3 - 5 days. With 2 hours of private yoga instruction each day and the rest of the time to read, relax, paint, walk and retreat. On the beautiful Vancouver Island. You can come on your own or with a group of up to four others.
This is the beautiful view to Saltspring Island just a few minutes walk from out home.
You can take the ferry to Saltspring and explore the farmers market, harbour and and other sights of the island.
On your yoga retreat you live in our guest rooms (up to 4 people shared accomodation) or take a room by yourself.
There is a shared bathroom and access to cooking facilities.

Kaiut Yoga was developed in Brazil by Francisco Kaiut - a chiropractor who himself had a serious childhood injury to his hip. So using his own body as an experiment, his own knowledge of biomechanical movement, his 25+ years of teaching and training many teachers, and an ancient 5000 year lineage of yoga all adds up to gives a very refined, beautiful and powerful practice that directly addresses the issues of a modern western lifestyle.
Kaiut invites you to become aware of the stresses in your daily life, and the effect that has on your body and mind. It deliberately and systematically helps restore the natural potential and flow, so your body and mind, your heart and soul can be functioning at their optimal levels.
Kaiut restores and revitalizes. It addresses the joints and your biomechanical health, on a physical level, it rebalances your nervous system on an emotional and mental level and it brings heightened awareness, mindfulness and an ever deepening sense of presence on the spiritual level.
Kaiut Yoga honours the great tradition of yoga passed down from teacher to student for thousands of years. These ancient roots of yoga are about bringing about better alignment in the body, to create a body that is not aging, which gives more mental precision and awareness. This brings you to much a deeper spiritual connection in yourself, to life and to the nature of consciousness.
In a Kaiut class you are skillfully guided by your teacher to uncover the rigidity and blockages in your body. Unlike other approaches that will avoid all pain, Kaiut invites you to actively seek restriction and tension, without aggression, once you have exposed a tightness, restriction or block you are then instructed to put your full awareness to feel and explore it deeply and gently. Kaiut is not about stretching or being super flexible. It systematically and specifically has you working in your joints. Hips, knees, shoulders, spine, ankles, neck, elbows, wrists, fingers and toes - every joint in the body is addressed.
Many students report having radical results in a very short time. However the goal is not for quick fixes. The poses have been modified and adapted from traditional asanas to address the specific issues in your body. They will help you identify and address the imbalances you feel. And invite you layer by layer to address those issues, be them historic injuries, inherited misalignments, or genetic programing. It does not actually matter why or where the issues in your body came from. What matters is now YOU can address them. And it is designed as a life-long practice. It is incredibly enjoyable. Once you get the right balance for you between expanding your capacity and evolving and resting and restoring you will keep wanting to come back over and over again.
Over time, over months and years of practice you will see how the sequence of 100 classes and progression of postures have been carefully designed to support you to regain full mobility. It has been called yoga for people who hate yoga, it has been called "weird", it is unlike any other yoga approach you may have experienced.
In Kaiut there are many paradoxes. One is that you are invited to rest, relax and allow the pose to work you rather than you work the pose. To allow time and gravity to take care of how deep you go. The paradox is that you will also find the work very demanding. Some sequences and postures can be incredibly challenging.
All students have to learn their own limitations and maintain their own balance between working and relaxing. This importance of you knowing your own limitations is emphasized again and again. You work at whatever level you feel able to work at. And then you relax and let go. And all postures have variations and different ways and approaches for everyone in the class to benefit no matter what their injury, history or medical problems.
For that reason Kaiut is also called yoga for everybody and every body.

And Kathy teaches using her own unique and magic style and uses the Kaiut Method Lesson Plans. She was originally trained in Hatha Yoga with the Sivananda Yoga Organization in 2000. Since 2004, her main influence and inspiration came from Scaravelli teachers. Scaravelli had studied directly with Mr Iyengar. In 2017 Kathy discovered the work of Brazillian Francisco Kaiut and she became a certified 300 hour Kaiut teacher in 2018. Read more about Kathy's Yoga journey here
There is a paradox within Yoga.
Yoga is something we do with our body, but it's not a physical activity. Yoga is about how we can establish ourselves in the present moment with awareness and without stress. The practice was never about stretching muscles or building strength, when we stretch like that we make the joints unstable and therefore the mind is unstable. Yoga is about cultivating awareness that helps us understand that everything we do with the body can help us lead a longer, better life. My teacher - Francisco Kaiut - says
