Yes, if you have your health care professional's permission (or you wish to self-declare yourself fit enough) you may join a class. The classes are slow, mindful and sometimes challenging. However, if you make Kathy aware of your physical issues before class, she can work with you to adapt and modify any poses or positions to help you overcome any limitations. Physical issues are worked with very slowly and mindfully. Many students see noticeable differences with hips, feet, knees, shoulders etc. after several months of regular practice. Please note that this is not a claim or guarentee that your specific issues will be addressed through yoga.
Every class is suitable for beginners. Kathy will guide and modify poses to suit all levels of flexibility and mobility. If you are new to yoga, the Joint Renewal System TM is the best place to start because it is designed to be incredibly safe, rejuvenating and accessible to all.
The popularity of yoga in the west has been exponential in recent decades. That popularity is, I believe, because Yoga meets so many of our needs, to be happy in body, mind and spirit. Yoga is a unique system that was developed for longevity, health and connection or union to all things. It is a deeply spiritual practice that brings you to an incredible sense of presence and awareness. Even if you start because you have a sore knee or hip, over time you will gain so much more than just helping to heal your body. Less anxiety, more peace, increased sense of wellness and the possibilty of a longer, richer, healthier life.

My own story was very much that of the experienced yogi... and then when I turned 50, and hormonal and physical challenges showed up I had to find a new practice that addressed my changing body and mind. I now teach a unique blend that is a combination of Kaiut, Yoga Mais (both from Brazil) and Scaravelli methods of yoga. It is different because it is a practice based on breath, slow mindful movement, long holds and is about creating an established sense of presence in the body and the mind. When we are present to ourselves we heal. Different forms of yoga give different outcomes (cardio workout, big stretches for example). This practice is very deep and powerful, very strengthening and many seasoned practioners like myself find it quite radical and remarkable because of the results in increased mobility it produces.
