I have physical issues can I join?

Yes, if you have your health care professional's permission (or you wish to self-declare yourself fit enough) you may join a class. The classes are slow, mindful and sometimes challenging. However, if you make Kathy aware of your physical issues before class, she can work with you to adapt and modify any poses or positions to help you overcome any limitations. Physical issues are worked with very slowly and mindfully. Many students see noticeable differences with hips, feet, knees, shoulders etc. after several months of regular practice. Please note that this is not a claim or guarentee that your specific issues will be addressed through yoga.


Is there a beginners class?

If you feel like a total beginner, you can start inside membership with 5 Minute Magic (previously called the 21 Day Joint Renewal Challenge) designed to take you step by step, just 5 minutes a day through the principles of joint renewal.


Why is yoga so popular?

The popularity of yoga in the west has been exponential in recent decades. It seems every corner in every city has a yoga centre. I believe the popularity is because it meets two needs that every human being has. To be happy in their body. And to be happy in their mind or spirit. Yoga is a unique system that was developed for longevity, health and connection to spirit. It is a deeply spiritual practice. So even if the average person goes to a yoga class looking for a 'workout' they emerge from that class having received a form of that but also so much more. They feel calmer, uplifted and their spirit has also been uplifted.


How much yoga should I practice?

To see the benefits of a yoga practice, a steady committment of two classes a week will support you greatly. Once a week is also fine, if you can find time to also do some other yoga at home on your own. Having membership allows you to work your own at home, so you never miss doing yoga. Having a steady committment of one or two hours a week is a great way to build up strength and resilience slowly. That said, jumping in and trying 5 hours a week is probably too much and you may risk injuring yourself unless you already have an established yoga practice. But building up to have a daily practice is a goal that all students should have.


I've been practicing for years how is this different?

Our needs for our bodies change as we grow older. I personally had to develop a new practice that addressed my changing body and mind when I reached peri-menopause. The yoga I teach has a unique blend of Kaiut and Scaravelli methods of yoga. It is different because it is a practice based on breath, slow mindful movement, long holds and is about creating an established sense of presence in the body and the mind. Older folks need this deep strengthening and yet calming approach. Many seasoned yogi's like myself find it quite radical and remarkable because of the results in increased mobility and strength the yoga helps with over time.

I injured myself moving and for 7 months had pain walking and even while trying to sleep. A combination of chiropractic and physiotherapy sessions was providing some improvements but the pain was still there.
