WELCOME
DAY ONE
Baddha Konasana which you can do anywhere - you don't have to have any special props or place to do it. When you do your joint renewal sequences with regularity, you will reap the benefits.
Think of yoga like cleaning your teeth. It's not like you clean them once and it's done. It's the same with your joints. Joint hygiene needs to be regular and consistent.
DAY TWO
Legs up the wall is my go to yoga pose.
I love it!
This can be done from your bed, on the floor or even on a couch.
It is one of the most powerful positions to quickly adjust your nervous system. To calm you down.
Please note that for a few people, this is uncomfortable, and so it can be modified (contact me if you have problems with finding how to relax in this pose).
And for vast majority you will find it extremely relaxing.
Calming your nervous system is the foundation from which we approach the practice. When your system is in parasympathetic mode (rest and digest), that is when healing happens.
DAY THREE
Sukhasana or "easy pose" is a simple crossed legged position.
In this video I show you all the variations of what you can do to change position and modify depending on how stiff your hips are, or how you might feel.
Yoga is not about pushing yourself into strange shapes, it's about meeting your body kindly where it is today.
In our modern society we spend much of our time sitting on chairs (at desks at school, at the computer in the office, at the dining room table, in our cars, watching TV) so it is no wonder that your hips have little mobility. Your hips can often be locked into one position for hours at a time (think of long distance airplane travel), so it's little wonder that they are as stiff as they are.
This pose can open up your hips to new angles which is vital for healthy joint renewal. Be sure to use the modification that works for you and then, if you can, stay there, starting for a minute or two on each side, gradually building that time up.
And remember, whatever age you are today, your hips have had decades to be in the shape they are. If you want to undo that shape, it's going to take time and consistency.
All you have to do is start. And keep going!
BONUS VIDEO
All about balance.
As you age, your ability to balance becomes more and more important, the number one reason why older folks end up needing to move into care is because of a fall*. Doing this simple balancing pose every day can make all the difference in your life.
I do have your back (literally and figuratively 😊).
I offer you lots of encouragement, send you all my enthusiasm for you and your yoga practice.
It is a HUGE gift of kindness that you would give yourself a few yoga movements each day.
